The Kingdoms of Elatae

Caedmorant – Caedmorans. Caedmorant is a desert settled in the middle of very fertile lands. Most of the people reside in the capital city of Caedmor, because of its location near the largest single oasis, Shasa. Of those who do not reside in Caedmor, most are of the Nomayii, a collection of nomadic tribes who are considered by the people of Caedmor to be little better than thieves and murderers. To a citizen of Caedmor, anyone outside their walls is not to be trusted. Caedmorant currently has a very young queen as well as a council, though in the past, the monarchs have had a tendency to try and overrule the council.

Ergosa – Ergosans. Ergosa is a typical medieval type country. They have a king, and he resides in his palace in the capital city of Mirit. Around his palace, the city is busy and as modern as such a city can be. The rest of the country consists mostly of farming villages. Most of the citizens of Ergosa are normal, happy individuals who indulge every now and again in gossip concerning their “monster king.”

Eras – Erasians. Eras is a medieval country the same as Ergosa, except the king has very little power, and not entirely because he was put in place after the deaths of the royal family and has no blood connection to them whatsoever. The government around him is corrupt, has always been corrupt, and he is not a man with much backbone. The cities and villages in Eras tend toward slums, and the people range from purely apathetic to sadistically interested in the pain of others. The land is pretty bleak, and the people have to work it hard in order to get just enough to feed themselves. There is little hope in Eras, but the people are used to such a life.

Saelwynth – Saels. Saelwynth is a country undergoing something of an industrial revolution. The government of Saelwynth consists of two bodies, or Houses; one is the House of Nobles, with representatives from the noble families, and the other is the House of Peasants, with representatives from all the other classes. This system was put in place after the deaths of the royals, and actually had been in the planning stages before. However, unlike the other countries, here science is beginning to take the place of magic, and magic is hardly even believed in anymore. Though Saelwynth is not the smallest country, it is not large, and so the people are in the process of building a wall along their borders. There already exist two gates through with travelers may leave and enter. Saels have something of a superiority complex (much like Caedmorans do, only with more cause) because of their science and industrialization.

Illysr – Illysrians. Illysr is a small country, and not very populated. To the east is the ocean, to the south is a bay (and further south, the peninsula of Dredara), to the west is a forest that seems magically protected and a range of mountains that seems like a very large living entity. Very few people ever migrate to or from Illysr. The people are a very sturdy, reliable sort, mostly farmers, and though they have something of a default king to whom the worst of their problems get taken, each village—no matter the size—has its own magistrate. There are rumors about Illysr, mostly involving the man/creature known as the Ahm Jalil.

Dredara – Dredarans. Dredara is a very small country that is relatively young in the scheme of things. Only about a century ago, this country was part of Illysr, This was a peaceable split, with no war involved. There is much silence regarding how Illysr and Dredara were able to agree to this without a war, and only the now dead ruling family of Dredara knew for certain. The country is still rather powerless in comparison with its larger neighbors, and still attempting to find their place in the trading world that is so important.

Uruth – Uruthans. Uruth is the largest of the (currently) important countries, and is northeast of Caedmorant, east of Eras, and directly north of Ergosa, stretching to surround Ergosa to the east as well. Uruth is actually an empire of sorts. The government is a theocratic triumvirate, lead by the three religious leaders of the three dominant religious sects of Urth. This government was arranged to keep the empire from suffering civil wars of the “holy” nature. So far, it has worked, though there is always the shadow of corruption and a hint of scandal.
