Characters

The Elem: Makan. Elem are created from a stone with magic properties, and are considered soulless. Each piece of stone is split into two halves and made into two separate Elem, thus balancing their power. Makan has been separated from his counterpart, and in setting out to find her he is breaking all the rules not only human, but those of his own kind as well.

The Naïve Queen: Najwa. Left to rule a xenophobic, semi-isolationist kingdom at a young age, Najwa lives by ideals that have died in all the people around her. She survives on a forbidden love and the quest to make it real. When the world crashes around her, she is entirely unprepared for the aftermath.

The Monster King: Maeryn. When only a child, Maeryn witnessed the brutal torture and murders of his entire family. He lost half his face in the fires that ensued, and some say he lost his soul. Now a grown man scarred inside and out, he is driven by nothing more than revenge: revenge on the man who took his family and his face, and revenge on the only country not to know the horrors he knows.

The Ahm Jalil: “The Great Demon.” A man, a mage, some say he is a literal demon from the Plains of Fire. Ten years ago his war against certain royal and noble families left a seared trail of fire, blood and death. He had no armies, only himself, yet managed to wipe out the entire royal lines of all the major kingdoms except two. In Ergosa, he allowed the youngest to live: Maeryn. Caedmorant alone did not suffer at all at his hands. Only he knows the reasons behind his actions, and after the carnage in Ergosa he vanished for ten year. Some say he lives in Illysr, a country protected by the sea on one side and forest and mountains on the other. The only absolute about him is that there are only stories, no truths.
